Anthotypes

Anthotypes are photographic images made with photosensitive pigments found in plants. By exposing parts of an image to sunlight over a period of days or weeks, the suns rays bleach the coated surface - creating forms like those in works below.

As an innately ephemeral form and process, these images are sensitive to UV light and will eventually change and fade with time.

The ongoing preservation of non-degradable materials is not a part of my practice. My works are produced with to withstand one lifetime, but perhaps not the next. Once your anthotype eventually disappears, my hope is that the paper is re-used and birthed a second life.

Storing your print in a dark room or away from direct sunlight will prolong fading.

Alternatively, coating your image with a wax or resin will block any sources of UV light.
